Summer Workshops to keep you dancing!
A fantastic series of workshops taught by some of the stars of the Johara Dance company!
Keep your dancing up over the summer break with these workshops at Aylesford Community Centre, 25 Forstal Road, Aylesford, ME20 7AU.
Thursday 4th August, 7pm to 9pm
Sorcha Ra introduces poi technique for bellydancers
Sorcha Ra is one of the UK’s most talented and versatile professional performance artistes, who combines fire artistry, belly dancing and circus skills to create unique and thrilling spectacles.
She joined Johara Dance for our second show, Hoochie Coochie Girls and choreographed a short poi bellydance piece for the grand finale.
In this workshops Sorcha will introduce the basic poi technique with a short choreography so that you can really appreciate how this dramatic prop can be used to great effect within a bellydance performance.
Thursday 11th August, 7pm to 9pm
Nuxya Nereisidos teaches funky Bollywood
Nuxya brings her funky bollywood beats to Aylesford with an upbeat and truely danceable choreography. Nuxya is an experienced dancer in both Bellydance and Bollywood and has worked with an International Bollywood dance company.
As a member of Johara Dance, Nuxya choreographed the street bollywood dance that ended the first half of Hoochie Coochie Girls as well as the beautiful traditional bollywood number in our first show, Elemental.
In this workshop Nuxya aims to introduce bellydancers to the uplifting style of Bollywood with a Hip-Hop edge. Fresh and modern yet universally enjoyable. Whatever your level you will leave this workshop challenged and inspired!!
Thursdays 18th & 25th August, 7pm to 9pm
Catherine Bartholomew teaches Pop Choreography
Catherine will be teaching this upbeat Egyptian pop choreography over two workshops. There'll be some sassy combos and cheeky new moves to keep you smiling while you dance. You will need to do both workshops to have the complete choreography, but it will be taught through combinations and technique drills so you will still benefit from either workshop if you can only do one.

Johara Tour a Resounding Success!
This summer I went on tour with Johara Dance performing our second show, Hoochie Coochie Girls: Strangers, Tribes and Vagabonds. We had so much fun bringing this new show to excited audiences across the South of England and Northern France. The grand finale, a mass of colour, light and splendour, drew extensively on the techniques of Sorcha Ra, Johara’s resident fire dance and poi expert and a recent addition to the company. As classes have all broken up and schools are out for the holidays I'd like to take the opportunity to wish everyone on the Sevenveils mailing list a lovely summer. I hope you all enjoy the sunshine and have fabulous holidays! I look forward to seeing you all tanned and relaxed on 8th September when the Aylesford classes start up again.
