At 8am in the morning, as I made a pot of coffee for a relaxing breakfast before picking Ozgen up from the station for his sell out workshops in Aylesford, my phone rang. Unfortunately there'd been a break in at the community centre during the night and the place was in no fit state to dance in. They were still awaiting the police so it couldn't be cleaned yet either.
So I had the rather stressful job of trying to organise a new venue early on a Sunday morning with only 3 hours to go until the workshops!
Thankfully, after many phone calls, I came across a hall in East Malling, just 5 minutes drive from the Aylesford Community Centre. When we arrived at the venue for the workshops it was the first time I'd seen the place, so I was very thankful that it turned out to be quite suitable.
We had a small room for the bazaar, this time provided by Ashara Bazaar and make-up from Dancing in Kent.
The main hall was a little smaller than the Aylesford centre, but everyone was very understanding about the last minute change in venue and no-one complained.
I'd like to say a big thank you to Ozgen for being such a pro and to all the students for your patience. I must also thank Ann Hall, who as always stepped in to help out and stood guard at the Aylesford Community Centre to redirect all the students that we couldn't get hold of in the morning. Thanks Ann! It's good to know you're always there if I need you!
I've since had some very positive feedback about the day and it's clear that Ozgen was once again a big hit with all the ladies!!

Ozgen is getting to be quite a regular to Kent, his next project being a whole 5 week course in Turkish Bellydance!
The course will take place in July on Thursday evenings at the Aylesford Community Centre. Each class will be a full two hours of Turkish bellydance tuition, including cabaret style and gypsy dance.
This course will be a rare opportunity to study Turkish bellydance in greater depth than can be achieved in a single workshop. This really is an opportunity not to be missed!!
Visit www.sevenveils.co.uk for more information and online booking.

Johara Dance is a newly formed dance company lead by Josephine Wise. The dance company has 15 experienced dancers including some teachers that you might be familiar with; Margaret Krause, Gwen Booth, Trish Rapley Giles, Samantha Neal, Harriett Gervasio, Yvette Cowles and of course Catherine Bartholomew!
Josephine Wise is a highly respected teacher based in London. She is the founder of the JWAAD Teacher Training diploma and organiser of some of the biggest bellydance events the UK has ever seen including Fantasia, Summer School and the famous International Bellydance Congress held at Butlins last September. She is constantly sought after to teach workshops all over the world and is known for her authentic Egyptian style and flamboyant choreographies.
Johara Dance have already made a big impact on the UK dance scene with their first appearance at the Bellydance Congress last September. They have been booked as the headline act for the Summer MADN platform and will be featured in the next Mosaic magazine.
To see their first promo clip featuring all the dances from the Bellydance Congress please visit www.joharadance.co.uk.
Decipher the difference between Saidi, Baladi and Oriental in your music and learn combinations to suit each style.
Improvisation can be a terrifying concept to many students. In this friendly and encouraging workshop, we'll use games and techniques to become more comfortable with improvising and hopefully begin to banish those fears altogether! You might like to bring a veil.

The Aylesford Community Centre will not be available on Thursday 13th March, so rather than squash into the small hall I have cancelled the class. Please make sure you put this date in your diaries! The class will be back to normal the following week (20th March).
The new performer class will be starting on Thursday 20th March at the Aylesford Community Centre.
The class will be from 8:30pm to 9:30pm and will cost £4 if you have attended another class with Catherine that week or £6 if it is your only class.
This class is intended as a supplement to other classes as choreographies learned in a regular class will be rehearsed during this class, along side new choreographies exclusive to the performers.
The purpose of the class is for students keen to perform to have a regular rehearsal time where we can work on presentation of the dances, with a view to forming an amateur dance company.
Being part of this group will entail a level of commitment to both the weekly class and performance opportunities, (obviously with plenty of advance notice given). It is aimed at improver and intermediate level dancers so that we can tackle some more complex choreographies.
If you would be interested in attending this class or would just like to find out more about it please contact me (info@sevenveils.co.uk)
The classes will be held at:
Aylesford Community Centre
25 Forstal Road
Aylesford
ME20 7AU
Please enter the building through the large double doors at the front of the building.
Classes taught by Catherine Bartholomew will all stop for the spring break in April. Please note however that the break does not coincide with the Easter Bank Holidays, but instead follows the school holiday dates.
Classes will be running either side of the Easter Bank Holidays with the exception of the Monday class in Strood which will not be running on Easter Monday.
The last lesson for each class will take place on the following dates:
Monday Classes in Strood: 31st March
Tuesday Classes in Sittingbourne: 1st April
Thursday Classes in Aylesford: 3rd April
Each class will then resume on the following dates:
Monday Classes in Strood: 21st April
Tuesday Classes in Sittingbourne: 22nd April
Thursday Classes in Aylesford: 24th April
